What is the Shadow?

The Shadow, a term rooted in Jungian Psychology, refers to the hidden aspect of the Self—the undiscovered, unmet, and unintegrated parts of who you are. It constitutes all that remains out of sight until the light of awareness shines, revealing that which has never been fully seen.

Operating in the subconscious until it is recognised, the shadow can be filled with treasures and lessons entirely unique to you. This aspect of who you are, whilst yet unrecognised can play a profound role in your daily life, causing patterns of behaviour - or fate, even - to repeat themselves.

Shadow Work is the practice of shining the light of awareness. It is conscious journey of discovery, healing, and integration that can lead to self-acceptance, understanding, and an awakening of the fullness of who you are. Combining psychology with spirituality (psychospirituality) means to recognise your true nature on a transformative path... the deepest calling of the self.

What is Yoga?

Yoga means union. It is the art and practice of bringing together what appears separate—body, mind, and spirit—into a cohesive, integrated whole. With an ancient lineage stretching back far beyond recorded history, Yoga stands as one of humanity’s most enduring technologies for waking up.

Although Yoga is often associated with posture and flexibility, its deepest purpose extends beyond the physical. The path of Ashtanga Yoga (the eight-limbed path) includes philosophy, asana, pranayama, concentration, and awakening. Through movement, the physical body is revitalised and balanced. Through breathwork, the nervous system and emotional landscape are regulated. Through meditation, the mind becomes clear and still. When these elements come together, the "seer" —the witnessing awareness — awakens.

Waking up is the process of removing the veils that obscure your essential nature. It is like being born blind, unaware of the sun’s radiance or the sky’s vastness—then suddenly being given the gift of sight. What was always real is remembered. This is the heart of Yoga: a sacred, transformative experience that transcends words. It must be seen, felt, and known directly within your own being.

Illuminating Shadows...

Illuminating shadows refers to the psychospiritual process that underpins self enquiry and waking up.

Blending classical yoga with philosophy and psychology of the shadow, "shining the light" means to intentionally look within and to practice the transformation of consciousness otherwise thought of as personal growth.

Walking the path of self knowledge means to step into the unknown, transmute the darkness, and let the light shine out.
